Womb Space

Several years back, thanks to a business coach I was working with at the time, I met Rachael Jayne Groover. I went to a free talk she was giving, curious to learn more about her, but also mentally set on not having the time or financial resources to commit to any work she might be offering. Everything she was teaching completely resonated with me and I knew it would transform my life. Because I felt like I wasn’t ready to invest further, I told myself I would be consistent and practice the tool she gave us on my own. Fortunately, I quickly realized that was not my highest self speaking and knew I needed more accountability and support, and so I signed up for her three-day Art of Feminine Presence Workshop. Attending the weekend felt right and I trusted that feeling.

That weekend shifted the trajectory of my life. Sounds exaggerative and yet it’s true. For the first time in my entire life, without effort, without trying to overpower my brain, I felt enough. My mind’s old games of comparison and seeing myself or others as less than weren’t there. My familiar mode of projecting out that I had it all together vanished.

The reason behind this remarkable shift was learning how to inhabit my womb space. That actual embodied feeling of being in the center of my body allowed me to feel true belonging to my Self. I wondered why, in my life-long quest for figuring out how to feel enough, this had never come up, why I had never been taught about my feminine essence.

You have a physical body: your muscles, bones, blood, fascia, etc. And you have an energetic body: the life force or chi that runs through and around you. In all healing, martial arts, and yogic traditions, a key energetic center in the body is the womb space (lower abdomen for men). In Chinese Qigong it is known as the Dantien; the Japanese name is Hara. I will refer to it as the Dantien here as that is most commonly used.

This power center is located in the center core of your body, about three inches below your navel and back toward the spine. The Dantien is considered to be the house of physical communication, sensory awareness, and feelings. When something is going on in your environment or in another person, you can feel that in your own body. Have you ever had a gut feeling about something? That inner knowing comes from this space. These feelings can be subtle at times, perhaps a quiet whisper. The more you pay attention to your Dantien or your womb space, the clearer this communication becomes.

During that weekend, I discovered how to experience the present moment through my physical body and feel my enoughness from the inside out. Even though I had already invested what little money I had toward business and personal growth programs, I signed up at the end of the workshop for a year-long Feminine Leadership Mastery Program.
